Wall, SD to Murdo, SD

July 20, 2010
88 miles

Ed, Tom, and I helped load the van at sunrise in Wall and got on the road just before 6:00 a.m. We jumped on the interstate and it was flat with no traffic. The first 20 miles were done in no time.

Leaving Wall at sunrise

When we got to Catus Flats we turned into the east end of Badlands Nat'l Park and looked at the formations there.

Then we rode on frontage roads the rest of the day. These roads had no traffic and it would have been nice to have an ipod. Grasshoppers were all over the road like yesterday.

We had great weather again as the wind wasn't in our faces and the temps seemed seasonably low.

Our lunch stop was at mile 55 where the frontage road got near to the interstate.
After I crossed the grass from the frontage road to the rest area I saw a sign warning about snakes.

The last 20 miles I got to ride with Sharon. She was riding strong today and was the first to get to our home for the night, the Days Inn in Murdo.

We had dinner at a cafe across the street and then walked to the eastern end of town and got ice cream. There was a young Ukraine exchange student serving us. Then we walked back to the hotel in the heat.

Lots of these on the side of the road

Saw this sign after I crossed the grass to our lunch stop

What is that in the distance?

Getting Closer to Murdo we had a lot of rollers
