Rising Sun, Mt To Valier, Mt

79 miles

When we woke up this morning in or cabins it was very cold with the wind blowing east. Everyone met in Sharon and Kim's room for breakfast and then hit the road around 7 :00 a.m. The first five miles to St. Mary were easy. Then we turned south on Hwy 89 and had a big seven mile climb. Fortunately it was cool as we would be sweating a lot otherwise.

After 17 miles we turned east on Star School Rd. This part was awesome as we had a strong tailwind. Everyone was having a good time because we could go about 25 mph without pedaling much. This is the western edge of the Blackfeet reservation. We noticed a lot of crap on the surface of the road including broken glass and debris.

Riding on Star School Road-What a great ride

Then we turned back onto 89 and traffic picked up. Although I don’t like riding in a traffic lane in Montana because people are driving 70 mph plus by you, I had to go out into the lane because of the constant glass in the shoulder.

We took 89 for about 25 miles before we turned onto Hwy 44 east to Valier. At this point we had another great tailwind and got up to high speeds with little traffic.

We are staying at the Mountain Front Lodge tonight. This place looks like it was built in the 1950’s.
Nancy is taking us all out to dinner tonight. I am sharing a room with Ed tonight.
