82 miles
It rained heavily last night and when we woke up it was very cloudy. I rode out with Susan and Ziva from the Lode Star Hotel. We quickly made a right onto Hwy 34 which went on for several miles. The weather seemed pretty good being partly cloudy or cloudy with no rain. We worked our way out of the Missouri River Valley climbing slightly up hill for a number of miles.

When we stopped on the side of the road about 20 miles on Hwy 34 we noticed a herd of buffalo off to the right.
Our lunch stop was in Wessington Springs, about mile 42. The stop was next to a truck stop and gas stations on both corners.

Hwy 34 went on for miles
After leaving this spot the terrain changed from hilly to flat. There was a long downhill ride after Wessington Springs. Also, we noticed the humidity climb dramatically from the first part of the trip.
After 6 more miles we turned north onto US 281, It was great because we had a tailwind up to our turn off to Huron, Hwy 14.
Tom and I were the first to arrive in Huron. Just before seeing the "Huron Welcomes You" sign I noticed my chain slipping. At one point it flipped off the chain ring. I shifted it into a non demanding gear and went slowly into Huron looking for the church we will be staying in. Tom and I got a little confused as to the route at this point and had to ask for directions to the church. As we waited to go in the church I could see one link of my chain was bent or the pin holding the link came out. When Ken arrived he put in a new pin on the chain. Hope it holds for tomorrow.
Huron welcome sign; this is the area my chain started really slipping
