Alma, MI to Frankenmuth, MI

August 6, 20010
64 Miles

Last night we stayed at a wonderful college dorm at Alma College. Jim C. a trustee there and former rider of BAA 2008 helped us by providing great lodging and a delicious dinner at the college. Thanks, Jim C. It was great meeting you.

Great dinner provided at Alma College last night

After another catered meal in the morning we left a little later than usual-around 9 :00 a.m.

This ride was going to be the flattest of all the rides on the tour. What was also good -we had a tail wind most of the way.

Turning south after Alma

The ride consisted of mainly riding through crop fields. However while taking some roads we had to ride on gravel or dirt. Apparently Ken's bike had a problem with this as his second tire blew out.

I saw this sign before hitting a number of dirt roads

Originally we were not supposed to have a provided BAA lunch stop on the ride but Ken notified us via chalk that we could stop near a field around mile 40 to get food off the truck.

The weather was much cooler than yesterday. In fact when we left Alma riders put on jackets as it was about 65 degrees.

We arrived in Frankenmuth around 1 :30 p.m. Frankenmuth is the third german town on this tour. The other two were Levenworth and New Ulm. Frankemuth also is capitalizing on it's German heritage by it's new/old architecture.

After we got settled at the hotel I put up the BAA clothes line in the back of the Frankenmuth Hotel next to a corn field. Then I walked into town and ended up eating dinner at the Frankenmuth Brewery with a good view of the river.
