Waterville, Wa To Wilber, Wa

June 23, 2010
74 Miles
The first 44 miles of today's ride were wonderful. We went through wheat fields outside of Waterville and then hit the Coulees. These are old canyons that were made millions of years ago when water rushed down from Canada during the Ice Age. There was little traffic and wide open roads. Our lunch stop was at mile 44 in Coulee City.

More coulees

After lunch the next 30 miles seemed a bit harder as we had headwinds and heat. I rode with Tom, Ziva and Susan on this stretch.

Traveling east of Coulee City we rode through Hartline and Almira before reaching Wilbur. This is where we had headwinds and the ride was more difficult. Dick, who had taken a detour up to the Grand Coulee Dam had ridden even more miles. Most of us were tired when we got to Wilbur.

Once we got to the church in Wilbur, a church member Tootsie, took us up to the high school to shower. Then we walked around town before dinner.

Most of the area was covered by miles and miles of wheat fields.

  1. The Farmer Community Hall had a nice outhouse. The building with a structure on the roof in the wheat field is an old one-room schoolhouse.
